Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, sport, and self-defense system. It’s one of the most popular, fastest growing activities today. Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes grappling techniques, using joint locks and submission holds to subdue a challenger. Because it’s based on skill and strategy, not raw strength, jiu-jitsu works for people of all sizes. BJJ is for everyone!
Triumph Training Center offers free trial lessons, and welcomes new and advanced grapplers alike. We have classes for both adults and kids (5+ years old).
Required gear: A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi (uniform) is required. A rashguard, mouth piece, and groin protector are recommended.
Fundamentals
If you are new to jiu jitsu, this is a great class to start. We cover the fundamentals movements and concepts of jiu jitsu at a slower pace. There is less of a focus on sparring and sport jiu jitsu, which beginners often find more comfortable.
General
Our general gi class on Monday nights is for all belt levels. A gi (traditional martial arts uniform) is required. We recommend getting a jiu jitsu gi. Uniforms from other martial arts (tae kwon do, karate, etc) are often not made for the same amount of grabbing and pulling, and can tear easily.
The typical class starts with some warm ups involving cardio and drilling of fundamentals. Then we move into the instructional portion of the lesson, with drilling of that technique. Class then typically ends with several rounds of sparring (aka “rolling”) against a resisting opponent.
No Gi
This class is similar to the General gi class, but without the gi. Students typically wear a rash guard (or a t-shirt) and shorts. The class structure remains unchanged, with warmups to start, instruction with drilling, and ending the class with live sparring.
Kids
Our Kids Jiu Jitsu classes help build a strong grappling foundation which will help your child’s development in the future. With these classes safety is our number one concern and all techniques are supervised by our instructors.
Our goal is to create a great learning atmosphere that is fun and safe which fosters their learning and athletic ability. Stop by our school and observe some of our Kids Jiu Jitsu classes to make sure that it is right for your child.
Open Mat
Open mats are a great opportunity to direct your own learning, and to test what you have learned so far. This is mostly unstructured time to spar, ask questions of higher belts, drill, and socialize. We keep the round timer going so people know when to take breaks, but the rest of the structure is up to you to determine.
Muay Thai
This class will teach the Muay Thai kickboxing fundamentals and techniques. It will be offered with different levels so there is a progression for new and experienced fighters alike. Introductory instruction will focus on perfect jabs, hooks, uppercuts and power punches as well as the devastating kicks, knees and elbow strikes that Muay Thai is so well known for. Training will consist of mitt, heavy bag, speed bag, jump rope, footwork drills and fighting tactics. Students will have the opportunity to spar with instructors and individuals of their own experience level.
MMA - Mixed Martial Arts
Students will learn how to blend striking, take downs, grappling, and submissions in the MMA context with an emphasis on the three pillars of MMA: Muay Thai, Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Prior experience is helpful but not required.
Required Equipment – Mouth guard, groin protection, MMA Hybrid gloves (7-8 Ounces), and Shin guards.
